2027: Our 2.5 Million votes for Tinubu will come from projects, says Okpebholo
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has declared that the 2.5 million votes his administration pledged to deliver for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections will be driven by the developmental projects being executed across the state.
The governor made the remark while inspecting the ongoing construction of an ultra-modern market in Jattu, Etsako West Local Government Area, describing the project as a landmark investment that would transform commerce in Edo North and the state at large.
According to Okpebholo, the market will stimulate trade, improve economic activities and create opportunities for residents.
Responding to critics who questioned the feasibility of the promised 2.5 million votes, the governor insisted that the administration’s performance would earn the support of Edo people.
“People wonder how we will get the 2.5 million votes, but they forget that this government is doing a lot for Edo people. Our votes will come from the numerous projects we have embarked upon for the benefit of our people,” he said.
The inspection tour was attended by the Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh; former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole; Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku; and other government officials.
Okpebholo expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the project, describing it as a modern market designed to serve not only Edo North but traders from across Nigeria.
“We are not just building a market but a modern standard market for our people in Edo North, Edo State, as well as Nigerians who will benefit from this project when completed.
“This is a central market for all of us, and we are maintaining high standards of construction. We have different floors in this market. A lot of work has been done in the basement; the structure is very strong and solid, and the construction is massive,” he stated.
The governor added that the project reflects his administration’s commitment to rewarding the confidence reposed in it by Edo people, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and President Bola Tinubu.
He maintained that ongoing infrastructure projects across the state would play a significant role in achieving the APC’s electoral target in 2027.
Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, described Jattu Market as a historic commercial centre that had served the old Midwest Region for decades, saying its reconstruction would boost economic activities.
“This market will serve the people of Edo North and Edo State in general. Prices are cheap here, and we thank President Tinubu for providing the resources for governors to work for their people and the governor for considering the reconstruction of this market,” Momoh said.
Also speaking, Senator Adams Oshiomhole recalled selling baskets in the market as a child, describing the reconstruction as an effort to preserve its historical significance while providing traders with a safer and more modern environment.
He also dismissed criticism over the cost of the project.
“I want to correct critics who have questioned the cost of the project. If they calculate the volume of reinforced concrete used on each floor, they will understand that the project is worth the investment,” Oshiomhole said.
The Edo State Government noted that the Jattu Market project forms part of a wider plan to modernise major markets across the state, including the redevelopment of Oba Market in Benin City and Ekpoma Modern Market with improved facilities for traders.
