London Police launch manhunt for Nigerian prisoner after escape from custody van

Police in London have launched a manhunt for a 25-year-old prisoner, Temitope Segun, after he escaped from a custodial transport vehicle in the Plumstead area of South East London.

Segun was last seen near Woolwich High Street at about 6:40 p.m. on Monday, June 8. Authorities said he is believed to have links to several communities in South East London, including Plumstead, Abbey Wood and Woolwich.

At the time of his escape, he was reportedly wearing a black jacket, black trousers and black trainers.

Police have warned members of the public not to approach him if spotted and instead contact emergency services immediately.

Detective Sergeant Claudine Manning, who is leading the search, said: “My team of dedicated officers are working around the clock to trace and apprehend Temitope Segun. It is imperative that the public contact police via 999 if they see him – or know where he may be.

“He was last seen wearing a black jacket, black trousers and black trainers and has links across South London.”

Authorities have urged anyone with information on Segun’s whereabouts to call 999, quoting reference number 2270/10JUN. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers.

The search comes amid heightened attention on prison escape cases in the UK following separate reports involving inmates who evaded custody under different circumstances.

Police investigations into Segun’s escape are ongoing.
