BREAKING: Trump vows to retaliate against Iran over alleged downing of US helicopter
President Donald Trump has said the United States will respond after Iran allegedly shot down an American Apache helicopter during a patrol mission over the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on Truth Social on Tuesday, Trump claimed he was briefed by the U.S. military that the incident happened overnight and involved what he described as a “highly sophisticated Apache Helicopter.”
He said two pilots were on board the aircraft at the time but both survived the incident without injuries.
Trump wrote: “I have just been informed by our Great Military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache Helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz.
“There were two pilots involved, both are safe and uninjured. Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Very Nigerian reports that the incident marks a fresh escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route.
