BREAKING: Kogi High Court denies ordering deregistration of NDC

The High Court of Justice of Kogi State has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that it ordered the deregistration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the publication as false, misleading and capable of damaging the image of the judiciary.

In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the court’s Chief Information Officer, Saqeeb Saeed, the High Court clarified that it has never handled any case relating to the registration or deregistration of any political party in Nigeria, including the NDC.

According to the statement:

> “The attention of the authorities of the High Court of Justice of Kogi State has been drawn to an erroneous and misleading broadcast on social media by a content creator, claiming that the deregistration of one of Nigeria’s political parties, the National Democratic Congress, was ordered by the High Court of Kogi State.

“We wish to place it on record that the High Court of Justice of Kogi State did not handle any matter relating to the registration or deregistration of any political party in the country, particularly the party in question, nor any other matter concerning the political party.”

The court said it would ordinarily have ignored the publication but decided to respond because it was accompanied by the photograph of the Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Josiah Joe Majebi, alongside that of former Governor Yahaya Bello, creating what it described as a false impression that the alleged judgment originated from the state High Court.

The judiciary urged content creators and members of the public to verify information before publishing it on social media, warning that misinformation capable of undermining the integrity of the courts would no longer be tolerated.

It also called on the public to disregard the viral report, reaffirming its commitment to administering justice fairly and impartially.
