Nigeria’s men’s 3×3 basketball team began their campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on a winning note, defeating the Cayman Islands 21-17 in their opening match.
The Nigerian side produced a composed and energetic performance, taking charge of crucial moments in the fast-paced encounter to secure an important first victory of the tournament.
Esosa Okundaye and Ikechukwu Nwamu led the scoring for Team Nigeria, each contributing six points as the team held off a determined Cayman Islands side to claim the win.
The result gives Team Nigeria a positive start to their Commonwealth Games campaign as they continue their quest for medals in Glasgow.
Nigeria will now turn their attention to a tougher challenge against Australia in their second match of the men’s 3×3 basketball tournament.
