Anambra woman allegedly killed by ex-boyfriend after breakup

A young woman identified as Umuora Mmesoma has reportedly been killed by her former boyfriend in Uga, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, following the alleged end of their relationship.

Mmesoma was reportedly declared missing on Friday, October 16, 2026, before her body was later discovered.

According to accounts circulating on social media, the suspect, identified as Chima, allegedly confessed to killing her because she ended their relationship.

However, the circumstances surrounding the alleged killing have yet to be independently verified, and further details about the incident remain unclear.

In a statement attributed to him in a circulating video, the suspect said he killed Mmesoma in his house in Uga, put her body in a bag and dumped it at an undisclosed location.

The incident has once more raised concerns over violence against women and the dangers associated with abusive relationships.

Meanwhile Very Nigerian reports that the Anambra State Police command was yet to issue a statement about the development at the time of filing this report.

However, it was learnt that the suspect has been handed over to the police in the state.

Reacting to the ugly incident, a former Special Adviser on General Duties to the Director-General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, Dr. Uche Nworah, said no disagreement, rejection or heartbreak justifies taking another person’s life.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Nworah wrote: “It is tragic that a young woman should lose her life for exercising her right to walk away from a relationship she no longer wished to continue.

“Love should never become a death sentence. No disagreement, rejection or heartbreak justifies taking another person’s life.

“I am relieved that the suspect has reportedly been apprehended, although his arrest can never bring back the precious life that has been lost.”
