Police Corporal allegedly shoots girlfriend dead, commits suicide in Kogi

A police corporal attached to the Ajaokuta Division of the Kogi State Police Command has allegedly shot dead his girlfriend, identified as Woman Corporal Grace, before taking his own life with an AK-47 rifle.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 9 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2026, although the police had yet to officially confirm the deaths as of the time of filing this report.

According to an account obtained by SaharaReporters, the officer, identified as Corporal Amos, was assigned to night-duty station guard and reportedly resumed duty at about 6 p.m. before allegedly leaving his post a few hours later.

The account claimed that Amos went to Grace’s quarters, where he allegedly shot her multiple times before turning the weapon on himself.

A source quoted in the report alleged that Grace sustained gunshot wounds to her shoulder, lower abdomen and leg.

The circumstances surrounding the incident, including the motive, had not been independently established.

However, the account linked the tragedy to alleged relationship difficulties between the two officers, who were reportedly involved in a romantic relationship for several years.

According to the source, the relationship had allegedly become strained in recent months over trust issues and accusations of infidelity.

The source further claimed that their disagreements had escalated into physical confrontations and threats, prompting the intervention of divisional authorities.

The account alleged that the two officers had previously been detained by the Divisional Crime Officer, who reportedly advised them to end their relationship to prevent further conflict.

The claims surrounding the alleged history of disagreements and the circumstances of the shooting could not be independently verified.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kogi State Police Command had not issued an official statement confirming the incident.
