WAFCON: Vilda praises Morocco’s performance in 4-0 victory against Kenya
Morocco head coach Jorge Vilda has expressed his delight after the Atlas Lionesses began their campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with an emphatic victory over Kenya.
The tournament hosts defeated the Harambee Starlets 4-0 in the opening match of the competition at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat on Sunday night.
Ibtissam Jraidi starred for Morocco with a brace, while Sakina Ouzraoui and Meriem Atiq also found the back of the net to seal a comfortable victory for the home side.
Reacting after the match, Vilda commended his players for their impressive display and attributed the performance to the team’s thorough preparation ahead of the tournament.
“It’s a good start. When you start a tournament like this, it means you’ve had good preparation. I’m satisfied with what I saw from the team today,” Vilda told CAFOnline.
The convincing win moved Morocco to the top of Group A on goal difference ahead of Algeria, who recorded a 2-0 victory over Senegal in the other group fixture.
The Atlas Lionesses will now turn their attention to Thursday’s Group A clash against Algeria as they seek to maintain their winning start and strengthen their bid for a place in the knockout stage.
