2027: The Country is bleeding, Tinubu has turned Nigeria to a banana island, vote him out – Yoruba union tells Nigerians

The Yoruba socio-cultural group, Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá (Yoruba Union), has urged Nigerians to vote President Bola Ahmed Tinubu out of office in the 2027 general election, accusing his administration of worsening insecurity, deepening economic hardship and failing to respond to the plight of ordinary citizens.

In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its Convener, Olusola Badero, and released through its Home Director, Princess Balogun, the group alleged that Nigeria has continued to experience widespread hardship under the current administration.

According to the organisation, millions of Nigerians are grappling with rising poverty, insecurity and an unbearable cost of living, while the Federal Government continues to insist that its policies are yielding positive results.

> “Our people have become beggars under Tinubu’s watch while hundreds of innocent citizens remain in the hands of Fulani terrorists waiting for ransom payments. The cost of living has become unbearable, yet the President does not want to listen to Nigerians,” the statement read.

The group called on Nigerians to reject President Tinubu at the polls in 2027, insisting that his administration has failed to tackle the country’s major challenges.

The Yoruba Union said it shared concerns recently expressed by the Archbishop Emeritus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, and other Catholic bishops regarding worsening insecurity and economic hardship across the country.

According to the group, rather than acknowledging the concerns raised by religious leaders and citizens, the President has continued to maintain that his economic policies are succeeding despite the hardship experienced by many Nigerians.

The organisation also cited the security situation in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, alleging that scores of women and children abducted since February remain in captivity, while hundreds of people have reportedly been killed.

It argued that worsening economic conditions have pushed many Nigerians into criminal activities as they struggle to survive.

“Many people have resorted to different forms of criminality because of the economic situation in the country, yet Tinubu insists that the economy is doing fine,” the group stated.

The Yoruba Union further alleged that the President and his family have become disconnected from the realities facing ordinary Nigerians because of the privileges associated with public office.

According to the group, many Nigerians can no longer afford basic necessities, including food and medical care, while those in government remain insulated from the country’s economic realities.

The organisation also accused the administration of failing to effectively address insecurity, alleging that attacks, kidnappings and killings have continued across different parts of the country.

It further criticised security agencies, particularly the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force, alleging that they were being used to suppress dissent instead of protecting citizens.

The group also expressed concern over the experiences of Nigerians in the diaspora who returned home to invest, alleging that many have faced multiple taxation, intimidation and the destruction of their businesses.

Describing Nigeria as a “banana republic” under the current administration, the Yoruba Union urged Nigerians to unite behind credible leaders capable of restoring accountability, strengthening institutions and rebuilding the country’s image.

“It is time for Nigerians to wake up from their slumber, unite and support credible leaders who can hold corrupt politicians accountable, recover Nigeria’s lost glory and restore the country’s dignity both in Africa and on the global stage,” the statement added.
