Troops rescue 33 abducted passengers in Zamfara

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 33 passengers who were reportedly abducted by terrorists in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The passengers were rescued after security operatives received credible information about the abduction and quickly moved to the area.

The Media Information Officer of JTF North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement.

According to Danja, troops of JTF NW OPFY, working alongside personnel of the Nigeria Police Force stationed in Tsafe, received information late on August 8, 2026, that terrorists had abducted commuters travelling through the Magazu area of Tsafe Local Government.

He said the troops immediately responded to the report and successfully rescued the 33 victims.

He said the troops immediately mobilised to the area and made contact with the terrorists, who were allegedly moving the abducted passengers to an undisclosed destination.

According to him, the troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee into adjoining bushes.

He said the troops subsequently secured and rescued all 33 abducted persons.

“Following the rescue, troops commenced exploitation of the general area and continued efforts to track the fleeing terrorists,” he added.

Danja quoted the Theatre Commander, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, as commending the troops for their prompt response and professionalism, which he said led to the safe rescue of the passengers without casualties.

The Theatre Commander reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting civilians, denying terrorists freedom of action and safeguarding major transportation routes across the North-West.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly provide credible information on the activities and movements of terrorists and other criminal elements to security forces.
