Gunmen overrun military base, abduct over 70 residents in Zamfara

At least six soldiers have reportedly been killed and more than 70 residents abducted following a deadly attack by suspected bandits on Kasuwar Daji community in Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to local sources who spoke with Very Nigerian by telephone, the attackers stormed the community at about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday after allegedly overpowering the military outpost in the area.

The sources claimed that the assailants killed six soldiers before moving into the community, where they abducted over 70 residents and forced them into the surrounding forest.

The bandits were also said to have looted several shops, carting away valuables and other properties during the raid.

A resident who identified himself as Alhaji Aminu Kasuwar Daji, told our correspondent that the bandits who stormed the community in large numbers, immediately started shooting sporadically to overrun the military outpost based to protect the area.

“Our calls to Zamfara state and the Federal Government is to come to the aide of Zamfara people generally on this insecurity bedivelling the state.

We really in danger as if the bandits can overpowered military and succeeded in their operation on innocent citizens,” Aminu Kasuwar Daji said.

While speaking to Very Nigerian through telephone interview, the former deputy speaker Hon Namadi Kasuwar Daji, said the bandits confirmed attacked his community and abducted unspecified number of residents.

According to him, even though he was not around as he travelled out of the state, but his relatives called and told him about the bandits attacked which became a horrible situation.

” I was told that the bandits have even killed soldiers but I was not told the actual number, again I was told that the bandits after looting shops to do away with foodstuffs, drinks and other properties, have also abducted unspecified number of residents to the bush.

Contacting the Police Public Relations Officer of the state Command DSP Yazid Abubakar, said he was not aware of the attacked at Kasuwar Daji, but promised to call back after contacting the head of Police Officer at the area.
