2027: ‘ADC ready to follow electoral rules, won’t be rigged out’ – David Mark
The meeting with the ADC chairman was part of the centre’s ongoing engagement with political parties ahead of the elections.
National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has said the party will comply with electoral laws and regulations ahead of the 2027 general elections, but will not accept any attempt to manipulate the electoral process.
Mark made the position known on Wednesday in Abuja when the Governing Council of the Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development, led by former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, paid a visit to him at the ADC national headquarters.
The ADC chairman stressed the importance of adherence to established electoral rules, while warning that the party would oppose actions capable of undermining the credibility of the 2027 elections.
He said the party remained committed to participating in the electoral process within the framework of the law while ensuring that its interests and those of its supporters were protected.
“We hold ourselves to the highest standards of good conduct as a political party. We will play by the rules,” Mark said.
“But we will not accept rigging or allow ourselves to be rigged out. We are committed to playing politics in a manner that promotes public confidence in democracy.”
The centre’s governing council, known as the council of the wise, was reconstituted in June to engage relevant institutions and political stakeholders towards fostering peaceful, free and credible elections.
The meeting with the ADC chairman was part of the centre’s ongoing engagement with political parties ahead of the elections.
Ariwoola urged the ADC leadership to ensure that its candidates and supporters adhered to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) rules and refrained from actions that could trigger political violence.
