2027: ‘If you won’t win your state for Tinubu, don’t say we’ve won’ – Wike warns APC governors
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned governors and other political leaders supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid that they should not claim victory if they fail to deliver their respective states in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike gave the warning on Wednesday while speaking at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council at the State House Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
“I want to say, if you don’t deliver your states and the President wins, don’t say we’ve won. It’s not a question of whether I am chairman, secretary or member of this. What is important is for the President to win,” Wike said.
The FCT minister also recalled telling the President’s Chief of Staff that a victory for Tinubu in the presidential election would not be enough if the campaign team failed to secure victory in Lagos State.
“I told the Chief of Staff to the President, if the President doesn’t win in Lagos, don’t say we’ve won,” he added.
Wike further pledged that Rivers State and the FCT would record massive support for Tinubu in the 2027 election.
“By the grace of God, Rivers and FCT will vote massively for Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he declared.
The minister was recently named to coordinate Tinubu’s presidential campaign in Rivers State and the FCT, despite his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His involvement reflects the cross-party support being mobilised for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Wike’s remarks place emphasis on the responsibility of campaign coordinators and political leaders to secure support in their respective states, rather than relying solely on a national victory.
