‘Tinubu must go, he lacks capacity, energy to govern Nigeria’ – Peter Obi

The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, arguing that the government lacks the capacity and energy required to address Nigeria’s challenges.

Obi said Nigeria needs a president who would be readily available to respond to emergencies and visit communities affected by crises, particularly incidents involving mass kidnappings and insecurity.

“We need him to go home because Nigeria cannot be governed by his energy. Nigeria needs a president who will be available and be there at any location in the country that has a problem,” Obi said.

He also criticised the government’s handling of mass abductions, stressing that leaders must demonstrate a stronger commitment to rescuing victims and addressing security threats.

“We cannot be in government, and 600 people will be kidnapped and taken into the bush; we will go into that bush with them,” he added.

Obi’s comments amount to a direct challenge to Tinubu’s leadership and his administration’s response to Nigeria’s security problems.

They also place the issue of presidential availability and crisis management at the centre of the political debate ahead of the 2027 general election.

The former Anambra State governor is positioning himself as an alternative to the incumbent president, with security, governance and accountability expected to remain major issues in the run-up to the election.
