Give Tinubu, Otu another another four years to deliver Bakassi seaport, coastal highway — Shettima tells Cross River residents
Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured residents of Cross River State that the proposed Bakassi Deep Seaport and Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will be delivered, while urging them to re-elect President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu in 2027.
Shettima gave the assurance on Monday while representing Tinubu at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally held at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar.
He thanked Cross River residents for supporting the administration over the past three years, describing the relationship between the government and the electorate as “an alliance of prosperity, an alliance of opportunity.”
“Over the past three years, you have shown us support, and you have resisted the lies and propaganda intended to misrepresent us,” he said.
The Vice President urged voters to renew the mandates of Tinubu, Otu and APC candidates contesting seats in the National Assembly and the Cross River State House of Assembly.
He said the party was seeking another mandate based on its record in office, adding that elected officials had a responsibility to account to the people who entrusted them with power.
Coastal highway, seaport to boost economy
Speaking on infrastructure, Shettima said the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway would connect coastal communities, improve the movement of people and goods, promote tourism and attract investment to the region.
He said the project would also create thousands of direct and indirect jobs and open up economic opportunities for communities along the route.
On the proposed Bakassi Deep Seaport, Shettima said the project had received Federal Government approval and expressed optimism that it would become an international maritime gateway when completed.
“When completed, it will become an international maritime gateway. It will attract shipping companies. It will generate employment,” he said.
Shettima described the seaport and coastal highway as key projects in efforts to position Cross River State to benefit from Nigeria’s maritime economy.
Student financing initiative
The Vice President also highlighted the government’s student financing initiative, saying it would support human capital development, ease the financial burden on parents and expand access to higher education.
He said the intervention was intended to ensure that financial constraints did not prevent children from pursuing their education.
Shettima’s remarks came as the APC seeks renewed support for Tinubu, Otu and the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
