Names, photos of 15 abducted Niger students released as kidnappers demand over N100m ransom
Malam Aminu Bako, an Islamiya school teacher whose students were abducted from his farm over the weekend, has disclosed that bandits have demanded more than N100 million for their release.
Bako said the kidnappers had contacted village leaders and made the ransom demand following the abduction of the 15 students.
He disclosed this on Wednesday while releasing the names of the abducted students, appealing to the government to deploy military personnel to rescue the victims.
According to him, no meaningful rescue operation has been carried out since the incident, apart from efforts by local vigilantes, the school management and the victims’ families.
Bako called on the authorities to urgently intervene and ensure the safe return of the students.
According to him, only the acting chairman of Rafi Local Government Area and the Divisional Police Officer visited the community after the abduction.
Bako further revealed that the children are still inside Niger State, kept in an isolated building guarded by heavily armed bandits, based on the information gathered by the vigilantes.
Bako stressed that only military intervention can secure their freedom.
“We heard that they are still within Niger State, locked in a building, probably without food. We are worried; we want the authorities to come to our aid to rescue them,” he said.
The names of the students in captivity are:
Hassana Isah, Aliya Ahmad, Hajara Musa, Hauwa’u Abubakar, Halima Yahaya, Asma’u Jamilu, Radiya Salisu, Aminatu Salisu, Aisha Bello, Rahinatu Sani, Aminatu Alhassan, Nafisa Ayuba, Bilkisu Adamu, Salaha Abdullahi and Hajara Salisu.
