UCL: Man United complete 3-2 comeback against Roma as Bayern, Barcelona win
Manchester United reportedly staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Roma 3–2 at Old Trafford, while Bayern Munich and Barcelona also recorded victories in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League fixtures.
United came from two goals down to secure the win, with Matheus Cunha scoring twice late in the encounter to deny Roma a memorable away victory.
Roma took the lead in the 11th minute through Matías Soulé before Donyell Malen converted a penalty seven minutes later to extend the visitors’ advantage.
The Italian side went into the break with a 2–0 lead, leaving United with a difficult task after a disappointing first-half performance.
However, Bruno Fernandes reduced the deficit in the 58th minute from the penalty spot. His initial attempt was saved, but the referee ordered a retake following encroachment.
Cunha then drew United level in the 83rd minute before completing the turnaround three minutes later to put the hosts ahead.
The Brazilian’s evening ended on a sour note, as he received a second yellow card and was sent off during stoppage time.
The reported victory provided relief for manager Michael Carrick, whose team had been under pressure following a difficult run of results.
Bayern Beat Atletico Madrid
In Madrid, Bayern Munich reportedly defeated Atletico Madrid 2–0 to strengthen their position in the competition.
Eighteen-year-old Lennart Karl opened the scoring in the 54th minute, winning possession inside the penalty area before lifting the ball over goalkeeper Jan Oblak.
Konrad Laimer sealed the victory in the 74th minute with a powerful finish, giving the German side all three points.
The result was said to have extended Bayern’s unbeaten run in the competition following two previous draws.
Barcelona Overcome Aston Villa
Barcelona also recorded a 3–0 victory over Aston Villa at Camp Nou, with Lamine Yamal and Raphinha reportedly on the scoresheet.
Yamal opened the scoring in the seventh minute after capitalising on a defensive error to give the hosts an early advantage.
Raphinha doubled Barcelona’s lead in the 52nd minute before completing his brace in the 64th minute, following an assist from Joao Cancelo.
The reported win ended Aston Villa’s 100 per cent record in the Champions League, while Barcelona continued their strong scoring form.
