Two suspected bandits arrested in covert Police operation, after viral video flaunting money
Operatives of the Force Intelligence Department (FID) of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested two suspected bandits believed to be behind several violent crimes across Katsina, Zamfara, Niger and Kwara States.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, saying the arrests followed a high-stakes covert intelligence-led operation carried out in Kwara State.
According to the police, one of the suspects was identified as Abubakar Usman, popularly known as “Siddi,” who recently gained notoriety after appearing in a viral social media video where he was seen flaunting firearms and large sums of money.
The second suspect was identified as Shehu Mohammadu, also known as “Gide.”
During the operation, police operatives recovered one brand-new Honda Ace 125 motorcycle, ₦500,000 cash, and one AK-47 rifle with a magazine loaded with 20 rounds of live ammunition.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are members of a notorious banditry and kidnapping gang terrorising communities across Zamfara, Katsina, Niger and Kwara States,” the statement said.
The police added that further investigations showed that the gang also supplies arms and ammunition to other criminal elements operating within the region.
Both suspects are currently in custody and are cooperating with investigators, a development the police say has already yielded valuable intelligence aimed at tracking down other members of the criminal syndicate and recovering additional weapons.
The Force recalled that Abubakar Usman (alias Siddi) was recently identified as the individual in the viral video that sparked public outrage due to his open display of weapons and wealth.
Commending the operatives involved, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised their professionalism and dedication, assuring Nigerians of the Force’s continued resolve to dismantle criminal networks.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains unwavering in its commitment to combating banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes, and to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens,” the statement added.
The police further urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing security operations nationwide.
