I’ll tie the knot with Georgina after winning 2026 World Cup – Ronaldo

Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed his plans to officially marry his fiancée, Georgina Rodriguez, after winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ronaldo made this known during an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan on Tuesday, saying that he and Georgina, whom he got engaged to in August 2025 after nine years together, intend to tie the knot following the global tournament.

The 40-year-old football star proposed to Rodriguez with an oval-shaped diamond ring estimated to weigh around 35 carats.

When asked about their wedding plans, Ronaldo said the couple has yet to set a date but hopes to celebrate the union after the World Cup, ideally with the trophy present.

“We don’t have a date yet [for the wedding], but we plan to do it after the World Cup, with the trophy,” Ronaldo said.

“We didn’t plan that [the venue] because she’s not someone who likes big parties. She likes private things, and I will respect that.”

Ronaldo, widely regarded as one of football’s greatest players alongside Lionel Messi, has had an illustrious career spanning over two decades.

His long-standing rivalry with Messi has defined modern football debates, especially after Messi’s World Cup triumph with Argentina in 2022.

However, Ronaldo rejected the idea that a World Cup title should define his legacy, insisting that his achievements over the years speak for themselves.

“It’s not a dream for me to win the World Cup. To define what?” he said.

“To define if I’m one of the best in history? To win one competition with six or seven games? You think it’s fair?”

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
