FCTDecides2026: Smooth voting at Lugbe Polling Unit 009 amid low turnout
Accreditation and voting are proceeding smoothly at Polling Unit 009, located at Lugbe Primary School in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as residents participate in the ongoing Area Council elections.
Ballot papers are being issued to accredited voters without delay, and the process remains orderly and peaceful. Officials on ground, including members of the National Youth Service Corps serving as ad hoc staff, were observed effectively carrying out their duties.
Despite the calm atmosphere, voter turnout remains noticeably low compared to previous elections. Many residents who spoke at the polling unit expressed doubts about the electoral process, with some voicing concerns that their votes might not ultimately count.
Interestingly, women appear to be outnumbering men at the polling unit, while overall participation remains subdued.
After casting their ballots, several voters left the vicinity, indicating plans to return around 2:30 p.m. to observe the counting process.
As of the time of filing this report, voting continues peacefully.
