2027: Wave of resignations hits Edo Govt as commissioner, Deputy CoS, others step aside
The Edo State Commissioner for Water Resources and Sanitation, Washington Osifo, has resigned his appointment in compliance with the directive issued by Governor Monday Okpebholo.
Osifo is set to contest for the Uhunmwode/Orhionmwon Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, currently represented by Hon. Billy Osawaru.
His resignation is part of a broader wave of exits by political appointees seeking elective offices ahead of the next general election cycle.
Also stepping down is the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Plus Alile, who is reportedly eyeing the Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency seat.
Similarly, Osaze Igbinovia, a member of the board of the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission, and Terry Igiebor of the Edo State Audit Commission, have tendered their resignation letters to pursue political ambitions.
Governor Okpebholo had earlier directed all political appointees and civil servants intending to contest elective positions to resign on or before March 1, in line with constitutional provisions and to ensure administrative neutrality.
The development signals the early build-up to what is expected to be an intense political season in Edo State, as key figures reposition themselves for legislative contests.
