Suspected terrorists on Sunday invaded a church in Oro-Ago community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting at least nine worshippers during a service.

Sources in the community said the heavily armed attackers stormed the church while worship was ongoing, causing panic as congregants and residents fled the scene.

A local source confirmed that the assailants carried out the operation swiftly, meeting no resistance as they whisked away their victims.

“Yes, I can confirm that nine people were kidnapped today and taken away by the attackers,” the source said.

Residents alleged that the gunmen, believed to be bandits operating within the region, forcefully took the victims to an undisclosed location.

The incident has left the Oro-Ago community gripped by fear, with many expressing concern over the worsening security situation in parts of Kwara State and neighbouring areas.

Community members have called on security agencies to urgently intervene and ensure the safe rescue of the abducted worshippers.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to issue an official statement or confirm whether rescue operations had commenced.

The attack comes amid heightened security concerns in Kwara South Senatorial District, following intelligence reports warning of possible coordinated attacks by suspected terrorists.

The alerts indicate that Ifelodun, Irepodun, and Isin Local Government Areas may be targeted in planned assaults scheduled for March 23 and March 28, 2026.

Security operatives across the affected areas have reportedly been placed on high alert, with precautionary measures being intensified to forestall any potential attacks.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Coordinator of the Joint Security Watch, Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.

He noted that relevant authorities, including the Kwara State Police Command and local government officials in the affected areas, had been duly notified of the looming threat.
