Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State is set to formally return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, days after resigning from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).

The governor had on Friday announced his resignation from the NNPP alongside 21 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives, and all 44 local government chairmen in the state.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the governor’s spokesperson, Bature Tofa, said Yusuf’s decision to return to the APC was informed by his political trajectory across different platforms and his conviction that the ruling party offers a familiar and structured framework for progressive governance.

According to the statement, Yusuf originally joined the APC in 2014, after emerging winner of the party’s primary election for the Kano Central Senatorial seat, a ticket he later relinquished to former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Tofa noted that the governor believes rejoining the APC will deepen collaboration with the federal government, enhance security coordination, accelerate infrastructural development, and improve service delivery across Kano State.

He added that the move is aimed at consolidating political stability and unity in the state.

The spokesperson further disclosed that Governor Yusuf will formally register as an APC member in Kano on Monday, alongside 22 members of the State Assembly, eight federal lawmakers, and the 44 local government chairmen.

The governor is also expected to officially launch the APC e-registration exercise in Kano State during the event.
