Abducted Kwara monarch freed after days in captivity

Oba Simeon Ibiyinka Olaonipekun of Aafin Ile Ire, in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, who was kidnapped by bandits last year, has regained his freedom.
Very Nigerian reports that the traditional ruler was abducted by the attackers on December 32, 2025, along with his son.
His son was reportedly released earlier after a ransom of N20 million was paid.
It was gathered that the monarch was freed on Thursday morning after an additional N12 million was paid to his abductors.
The Police Public Relations Officer, of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi could not be reached for comment at press time.
However, reports indicate that the ransom was raised through community and private contributions.
