Big blow for Gov Makinde as Babatunde Oduyoye dumps Oyo State Advisory Council
Former Chief Whip of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in the House of Representatives, Babatunde Oduyoye, has resigned his membership of the Oyo State Advisory Council.
Oduyoye, who also holds the traditional title of Babameto of Ibadanland, confirmed his resignation in a letter dated July 24, 2026, addressed to Governor Seyi Makinde through the Chairman of the Oyo State Advisory Council, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN).
The former lawmaker, who represented Ibadan North West/Ibadan South West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives between 1999 and 2007, said his decision was informed by personal exigencies, adding that the resignation takes immediate effect.
In the letter, Oduyoye expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve on the council, describing it as a respected body that has made meaningful contributions to governance in Oyo State.
“As much as I appreciate my membership of the revered body and its contributions to governance in our dear state, personal exigencies have constrained my continued participation,” he stated.
Oduyoye, who also served as Special Adviser on Political Matters to Governor Seyi Makinde between 2019 and 2023, thanked the governor for the opportunity to contribute to the development of the state through his various appointments.
He also wished the Makinde administration and the people of Oyo State continued success in strengthening democratic governance and promoting the state’s development.
His resignation comes amid ongoing political realignments in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
