Catherine O’Hara, ‘Home Alone’ star actress passes away at 71
Catherine O’Hara, the celebrated actress known worldwide for her roles in Home Alone and Schitt’s Creek, has died.
O’Hara passed away on Friday at her home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles, her agency, Creative Artists Agency, confirmed.
She was widely regarded as one of the most gifted comic actors of her generation, with a career that spanned decades across film, television and theatre.
Following the news of her death, prominent figures in the film industry paid glowing tributes to her talent and character. Renowned director Martin Scorsese described her as “a true comic genius, a true artist, and a wonderful human being.”
Actor Seth Rogen also praised O’Hara’s exceptional screen presence, saying she was “the funniest person I’d ever had the pleasure of watching on screen.”
Filmmaker and longtime collaborator Christopher Guest called her “one of the comic giants of our age,” highlighting the lasting impact of her work on comedy and popular culture.
O’Hara rose to global fame for playing the anxious but loving mother in the Home Alone films and later earned renewed acclaim for her role as Moira Rose in the hit television series Schitt’s Creek, which won multiple international awards.
Her performances earned her critical praise and a devoted global audience.
