Dolly Parton: Trump orders US flags to fly at half-mast
Americans from different political and cultural backgrounds have joined in mourning the death of country music legend Dolly Parton, in a rare display of unity.
Former presidents from both major political parties, along with prominent figures in entertainment and business, paid tribute to the singer and celebrated her lasting legacy.
Parton, who was 80, was widely regarded as one of the few celebrities who enjoyed admiration across political and cultural divides.
Her decades-long career made her an influential figure in country music and American popular culture.
President Donald Trump announced the lowering of flags across the United States for a week, calling Parton’s death a “true loss for millions of people.”
“Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away,” Trump posted on his Truth Social network. “There has never been anyone like her, and never will.”
His predecessor Joe Biden called Parton “an American original” who “treated everyone with kindness and respect.”
Republican George W. Bush praised “her work to promote literacy, advance health, and strengthen communities,” while former Democratic president Bill Clinton called her “one of a kind.”
