EXCLUSIVE: Omo-Agege plots defection to NDC after dumping APC
Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has reportedly concluded plans to defect to the Nigeria Democratic Congress after resigning from the All Progressives Congress, following his defeat in the party’s Delta Central Senatorial District primary election.
In a resignation letter dated May 22, 2026, and addressed to the APC Ward Chairman in Orogun Ward 2, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Omo-Agege confirmed his exit from the ruling party with immediate effect.
He cited what he described as unfavourable political developments within the APC in Delta State as the basis for his decision, insisting that his interests and those of his constituents were no longer adequately represented within the party structure.
“I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria,” he stated.
The former senator, who represented Delta Central and served as Deputy President of the 9th Senate between 2019 and 2023, thanked the APC for the opportunity to serve but requested that his name be removed from all party records and communication platforms.
His exit comes shortly after losing the APC senatorial primary, where incumbent senator Ede Dafinone emerged victorious with 116,252 votes against Omo-Agege’s 3,643 votes.
According to the official results announced by the APC National Assembly Primary Committee, the margin reflected a decisive win for Dafinone ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political sources suggest that Omo-Agege is now preparing for a fresh political platform under the NDC, with reports indicating that consultations have already begun with his supporters and political associates regarding the move.
One associate was quoted as saying that a significant portion of his political network has already begun aligning with the Nigeria Democratic Congress ahead of his expected formal defection.
Although the former Deputy Senate President has not officially confirmed the move, his resignation from the APC has intensified speculation about his next political destination as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
