FCCPC hosts NERC, state regulators to deepen power sector collaboration
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) is set to host a high-level electricity stakeholders’ engagement on Thursday as part of efforts to enhance cooperation among regulators and strengthen consumer protection in Nigeria’s electricity sector.
The meeting, scheduled to take place at the FCCPC headquarters, will bring together the leadership of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and chairpersons of the various State Electricity Regulatory Commissions (SERCs).
Discussions are focusing on six key areas: inter-agency collaboration, handling of consumer complaints, consumer education, investigations and enforcement, market surveillance, and information sharing.
The engagement comes amid increased regulatory activity by states following the 2023 constitutional amendment that devolves electricity powers. Officials say the forum is addressing rising consumer complaints around estimated billing, metering, and service delivery, while clarifying roles to avoid overlap between FCCPC, NERC, and SERCs.
