FG unveils online discount platform for Nigerian military personnel, veterans

The Federal Government has launched an online discount shop for personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, veterans and their families as part of efforts to improve the welfare of those who serve the country.

The initiative, known as the Armed Forces of Nigeria Personnel Online Discount Shop, is designed to give beneficiaries easy access to essential goods at reduced prices.

The platform was launched in Abuja by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Head of Press and Public Relations, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Chris Ugwuegbulam, Akume praised the Chief of Defence Staff, General O.O. Oluyede, Defence Headquarters and other stakeholders involved in developing the initiative.

Speaking at the launch, Akume said the welfare of military personnel should go beyond their operational duties.

He noted that a motivated and resilient Armed Forces could only be sustained when personnel and their families are assured that their wellbeing remains a priority of the government.

The initiative is therefore expected to provide serving military personnel, veterans and their families with more convenient and affordable access to essential goods while supporting the Federal Government’s broader commitment to improving military welfare.

He described the initiative as a welcome contribution to the Federal Government’s comprehensive welfare framework, which seeks to ease financial pressures, improve access to essential goods and services, and enhance the quality of life of personnel.

The SGF also highlighted the innovative nature of the project, which leverages digital technology through the Konga platform in partnership with Zinox Group, saying the platform demonstrates how technology and strategic partnerships can be harnessed to deliver practical benefits to citizens who have dedicated themselves to the service and security of the nation.

He particularly welcomed the inclusion of veterans and their families in the scheme, stating that their sacrifices and contributions in times of peace and during national security challenges deserve continued recognition and support.

The statement disclosed that a Memorandum of Understanding MoU was signed between Defence Headquarters and Zinox Group, with Akume commending both parties and noting that the MoU provides a framework for sustainable cooperation between the Armed Forces and the private sector, demonstrating the possibilities that emerge when public institutions and responsible private organisations combine capabilities in pursuit of a shared national objective.

He urged the Defence Headquarters and all stakeholders to ensure that implementation remains transparent, reliable and responsive to beneficiaries’ needs, adding that the credibility of the initiative will be measured by the quality of service and tangible benefits it delivers.

The SGF expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support and commitment to the Armed Forces of Nigeria in line with his Renewed Hope Agenda.

He also encouraged all eligible personnel and veterans to make effective use of the platform.
