Former Nigerian High Commissioner to UK, Abubakar Alhaji, dies in Abuja
Former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Abubakar Alhaji, has died.
According to reports, the elder statesman passed away on Thursday morning at a hospital in Abuja, where he had been receiving medical treatment.
A source familiar with the development said the former diplomat had been undergoing treatment before his death but did not disclose the nature of his illness.
Alhaji served as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and was widely respected for his contributions to public service, diplomacy and national development. During his years in public office, he played significant roles in representing Nigeria’s interests abroad and was recognised for his commitment to national development.
As of the time of filing this report, members of his family had not issued an official statement on his passing.
His death comes barely two weeks after the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, announced the death of his mother, Mrs. Mary Amaechi.
It also follows the recent passing of Mrs. Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour, mother of the ADC governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.
On Wednesday, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and Amaechi joined family members, political associates and sympathisers in Lagos for the funeral service held in honour of the late Nkechi Rhodes-Vivour.
During the earlier Service of Songs, Obi paid tribute to the deceased and urged those present to live upright lives, saying that the lives people live are reflected in the tributes paid to them after their passing.
