Gaya Polytechnic opens recruitment for Academic, Non-Academic Staff (Apply Now)

Gaya Polytechnic, Kano State, has commenced recruitment for academic and non-academic staff across various departments and professional cadres.

The institution is seeking suitably qualified candidates for positions spanning teaching, administration, information and communication technology, finance, planning, library services, health, security, sports, physical planning and other areas.

However, serving employees of the Kano State Civil Service are not eligible to participate in the exercise.

The recruitment advertisement also cancels and replaces an earlier Circular No. 1/2026, with reference HCS/MIS/S/359/V.15 dated January 26, 2026, which dealt with the deployment of staff to the newly established Polytechnic.

Gaya Polytechnic was established in 2025 by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as the second polytechnic in Kano State.

Academic Vacancies

The academic recruitment covers various cadres, including Senior Lecturer, Lecturer I, Lecturer II, Lecturer III, Assistant Lecturer, Higher Instructor I and Technologist II.

Senior Lecturer

Candidates may qualify with a relevant Master’s degree and at least 12 years of teaching, research or industrial work experience.

The publication requirement includes three conference or seminar papers and three journal articles accepted for publication, or contributions to two chapters of standard textbooks.

Alternatively, candidates with a relevant doctorate may qualify with at least nine years of teaching, research or industrial experience, alongside the stipulated publications.

Membership of the relevant professional body is mandatory.

Lecturer I

Candidates may qualify with a relevant Master’s degree and at least six years of teaching, research or industrial experience, together with two journal articles accepted for publication and two conference or seminar papers.

The alternative route is a relevant doctorate with at least three years of experience, two journal publications and five conference or seminar papers.

Professional body membership is mandatory.

Lecturer II

A relevant Master’s degree is required. The advertisement states three years of teaching, research or industrial experience, one journal article accepted for publication and two conference or seminar papers.

However, the same requirement also refers to six years of experience. Applicants should therefore carefully follow the Polytechnic’s official interpretation of the published condition when preparing their applications.

Professional membership is mandatory.

Lecturer III

Applicants must possess a good Master’s degree in the relevant discipline, at least three years of teaching, research or industrial experience, two conference or seminar papers and one journal article accepted for publication.

Assistant Lecturer

Candidates must possess a good Bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline with at least Second Class Lower Division.

They must also have an NYSC discharge certificate, exemption certificate or exclusion letter.

Higher Instructor I

Applicants must possess a good HND in the relevant discipline at a minimum of credit level from a recognised institution, together with an NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion document.

Technologist II

Candidates must possess a good HND in the relevant discipline at credit level, an NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion document and evidence of professional registration.

Key Non-Academic Requirements

Administrative Cadre

For Admin. Officer II, applicants must possess a good Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Lower Division, preferably in Arts, Social Sciences or Humanities, together with an NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion document.

Admin. Officer I requires the same basic qualification plus at least three years of relevant post-qualification experience. A Master’s degree in the relevant discipline is also listed as an alternative.

For Assistant Registrar, applicants require at least six years of cognate experience, while a Master’s degree may be used with at least four years of post-qualification cognate experience.

Deputy Registrar applicants may qualify with 16 years of cognate experience, Master’s degree plus 13 years, or a relevant doctorate plus 12 years of post-qualification experience.

ICT and Data Processing

Data Processing Officer applicants require a good Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Lower Division in Computer Science or Statistics, alongside the required NYSC documentation.

Principal Data Processing Officer requires at least nine years of post-qualification cognate experience, or a Master’s degree with six years.

For Director ICT, the advert provides routes involving a Bachelor’s degree or HND with 21 years of relevant experience, Master’s degree with 18 years, or PhD with 15 years. Professional body membership is mandatory.

Finance and Audit

Principal Accountant applicants need a Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Lower Division in Accountancy or Finance, relevant professional membership and at least nine years of post-qualification cognate experience.

Chief Accountant/Internal Auditor requires the Principal Accountant qualification plus 16 years of post-qualification experience.

Higher Executive Officer, Accounts/Audit requires an HND at credit level in Accountancy or Finance and an NYSC discharge or exemption certificate.

Library Services

Higher Library Officer applicants may qualify with an ND at credit level in Library and Information Science or Technology, with the advert also providing an experience-based route.

Principal Library Officer II requires an HND at credit level in Library and Information Science or Technology, at least six years of post-qualification cognate experience and membership of a recognised professional body.

Librarian II requires a good Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Lower Division in Library Science and the required NYSC documentation.

Physical Planning and Engineering

Candidates for Senior Quantity Surveyor, Architect, Town Planner or Builder require the relevant qualification with at least Second Class Lower Division and six years of post-qualification experience. A Master’s degree may be used with three years of experience.

Chief professionals in these areas require up to 17 years of post-qualification experience, with Master’s degree routes also provided.

The Director Physical Planning position requires full professional registration and up to 18 years of post-qualification experience, depending on qualification.

Assistant Chief Engineer requires a good Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Upper Division in Engineering and 12 years of post-qualification experience, or a Master’s degree with nine years. Professional membership is mandatory.

Health Services

Medical Officer I applicants must possess an MBBS, be registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and have the required NYSC document.

Chief Nurse requires the Nigerian Registered Nurse Certificate and at least 18 years of cognate post-qualification experience.

Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist requires a relevant Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Lower Division, professional registration and six years of post-qualification experience. Master’s and doctorate routes are also listed.

Academic Planning

Principal Planning Officer applicants need a relevant degree in areas including Education Management, Educational Planning, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Social Sciences or Humanities, plus at least nine years of post-qualification cognate experience.

ICT proficiency is mandatory.

The Director of Academic Planning, Research & Innovation position requires a relevant degree or Master’s qualification and at least 20 years of post-qualification cognate experience, alongside ICT proficiency.

Chief Security Officer

The Chief Security Officer position is placed on CONTEDISS 14.

Applicants must possess a good Bachelor’s degree in Criminology, Security Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Public Administration or a related field, with at least 15 years of cognate security experience.

The candidate must also be a retired officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps or another recognised security agency.

The minimum retirement rank stated is CSP for the Police, Major for the Army or an equivalent rank in another service.

Application Requirements

Interested candidates are required to submit 20 copies of their typed application letter, current Curriculum Vitae and photocopies of relevant credentials.

Applicants must also provide the identification and supporting documents stipulated in the recruitment notice.

The CV must not exceed four pages and must follow the format and order specified by the Polytechnic.

Each applicant should clearly state the position and department being applied for in the application letter.

Three referees are required, covering employer, educational and personal references.

The referees must forward confidential reports directly to the Chairman of the Gaya Polytechnic Implementation Committee. The subject of the report should contain the applicant’s name, department and position being sought.

Important Conditions

Applicants must provide evidence of registration with relevant professional bodies where applicable and must be computer literate.

Candidates invited for interview must present the originals of their certificates and other relevant credentials. Photocopies will not be accepted for verification at that stage.

Applicants seeking to enter the Public Service for the first time must be below 50 years of age at the time of resumption.

Most importantly, serving Kano State Civil Service employees are excluded from the exercise.
