Grace Ike receives FCTA Chapel delegation, harps on union development
Structural renewal and member welfare are set to dominate NUJ FCT’s agenda under Grace Ike in 2026.
Stakeholders say the leadership has earned confidence through steady, impact-driven governance.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has reaffirmed her administration’s resolve to prioritise structural development and infrastructural upgrades at the NUJ FCT Council Secretariat as part of its key agenda for 2026.
Comrade Ike made this known on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, while receiving a delegation of stakeholders from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Chapel of the NUJ, who paid her a New Year courtesy visit at her office in Utako, Abuja.
She disclosed that the proposed improvements at the Secretariat, located at No. 4, Ekukinam Street, Utako, are aimed at repositioning the Council for improved efficiency and stronger institutional relevance.
While appreciating the delegation for the visit, which she described as a morale-boosting recognition of her administration’s efforts, the NUJ Chairman urged members to prepare for the financial responsibilities that would accompany the planned upgrades.
According to her, sustainable union growth requires collective sacrifice and strategic investment.
Speaking further, Comrade Ike noted that her leadership philosophy is anchored on selfless service and impact-driven unionism, stressing that recognition from stakeholders only strengthens her commitment.
She reiterated that members’ welfare remains central to her administration, explaining that the Council has adopted a progressive approach to welfare support.
She cited the improvement in end-of-year welfare distribution, noting that what began with 10kg of rice has now increased to 25kg, reflecting the Council’s resolve to do better despite prevailing economic realities.
Earlier, the Chairman of the FCTA Chapel, Comrade Ngozi Ufomba, said the visit was to express appreciation to the NUJ FCT leadership for its positive impact on members’ welfare and overall well-being.
She commended the Council Chairman for meeting expectations and wished her and the Executive Council a productive and successful year.
Also speaking, a former Chairman of the Credentials Committee during the 2021 NAWOJ Election in the FCT and Deputy Director of Information, FCTA, Comrade Josie Mudasiru, described the visit as a demonstration of solidarity and appreciation for inclusive leadership.
She noted that the delegation deliberately chose to honour Comrade Ike for her consistency, accessibility and commitment to members of the Union.
In her remarks, the initiator of the visit and a former member of the Council’s Credentials Committee, Comrade Sarah Udogbo, said the gesture was inspired by the principle of gratitude and encouragement, adding that acknowledging good leadership promotes greater service.
Similarly, a former Assistant Secretary of the Council and current member of the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee, Comrade Emmanuel Tortiv, praised the administration for stabilising the Council and fostering unity.
He observed that many former critics of the leadership have since become supporters, having acknowledged its performance and inclusive approach.
The visit climaxed with the presentation of a New Year hamper to the NUJ FCT Council Chairman.
Comrade Ike was accompanied by her Vice Chairman, Comrade Ndambabo Yahaya. Members of the delegation included Comrades Ngozi Ufomba, Josie Mudasiru, Kalu Emetu, Sarah Udogbo, Emmanuel Tortiv, Winnie Tanu, Obiageli Eze, and Nneka Enereulor.
