Dr. Sanusi Bala Turaki Maituta is a renowned Nigerian politician, administrator, and businessman whose influence continues to grow across Zamfara State and beyond.

Known for his commitment to positive change, he has built a reputation as a man who combines business success with humanitarian service, leaving a lasting impact across different sectors.

A humble beginning shaped by values

Dr. Sanusi Bala Turaki was born on July 10, 1979, in Zamfara State, into a close-knit family that placed strong emphasis on discipline, education, and service. From his early days at Dangaladima Primary School, he stood out for his academic ability and leadership traits.

Those formative years laid a solid foundation for a life defined by determination and a deep sense of responsibility to society.

He continued his education at Sambo Secondary School in Gusau, earning his Senior Secondary Certificate in 1998. Years later, he advanced his studies at Kano State Polytechnic, where he obtained a National Diploma in Public Administration in 2013.

His commitment to continuous learning earned him an honorary doctorate from IHERIS University in Togo, alongside recognition as a Fellow of the Chartered Administrators Institute of Nigeria.

His educational journey reflects a man who understands that leadership must be backed by knowledge and constant self-improvement.

Career milestones

Dr. Turaki’s career began in public service, where he served as an Executive Officer at the Federal Character Commission between 2000 and 2005. His role exposed him to the realities of governance, equity, and national development.

He later rose to become Acting State Coordinator in Zamfara, further strengthening his administrative experience.

In 2012, his appointment as Director-General of the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency marked a turning point.

At a time when communities needed urgent intervention, he demonstrated the ability to coordinate relief efforts, attract partnerships, and deliver results under pressure.

Beyond government service, he built an impressive business portfolio. As founder of Hafmoh Energy and Engineering Applications Limited, and Chairman of Alps Global Link Ltd, he has been involved in major oil, gas, power, and construction projects.
His companies have contributed to large-scale developments, including consultancy roles in multi-billion naira projects like Kashimbila and Kano effluent initiatives.

His leadership extends across several firms, including Rukhal Innovations and Construction Services Ltd, Contech Engineering Ltd, and Bitumen Energy and Hydrocarbon Ltd, which owns bitumen blocks in Ondo State.
With projects spanning road construction, drainage systems, and dredging across Nigeria, he has proven capacity to deliver infrastructure that directly impacts lives.

A Strong commitment to humanity

While many leaders build wealth, fewer translate success into meaningful humanitarian impact. This is where Dr. Turaki stands out.

Through the Turaki Foundation, established in 2021, he has supported hundreds of vulnerable individuals across Zamfara State. His outreach includes widows, orphans, and persons living with disabilities, providing both relief and hope.

His annual Ramadan intervention has grown into a major humanitarian effort, reaching over five thousand families across all fourteen local government areas of the state. According to him, the initiative is not driven by politics but by compassion and faith.

“I do this every year during the Ramadan fast. It is purely an act of kindness to put smiles on the faces of the Muslim ummah,” he said, while urging others to support the less privileged.

In a state challenged by insecurity and economic hardship, such consistent acts of generosity send a powerful message about leadership with empathy.

Political influence

Dr. Turaki is not new to politics. As a member of the All Progressives Congress, he contested as a gubernatorial aspirant in 2023 and played a role in national politics as part of the Presidential Campaign Council.

These experiences have given him insight into both grassroots mobilization and high-level political strategy.

His recent nomination for a key position at the North West Development Commission further signals growing recognition of his capabilities at the national level.

Why he stands out for Zamfara 2027

Zamfara State stands at a critical point. Issues of insecurity, poverty, and underdevelopment require a leader who understands both governance and economic growth. Dr. Turaki presents a rare combination of qualities that make him a strong contender.

First, he has real administrative experience, having worked within government structures and handled crisis situations.

This is important in a state where leadership must go beyond promises to actual problem-solving.

Second, his business background gives him an edge in economic development. He understands investment, infrastructure, and job creation, areas that are crucial for reducing poverty and stabilizing communities.

Third, his humanitarian track record shows he is connected to the people. Leadership is not only about policies but also about compassion, and his consistent support for vulnerable groups demonstrates this clearly.

Fourth, his educational and professional achievements reflect discipline and competence. In a time when voters are increasingly demanding accountability and results, these qualities matter.

Finally, his vision appears rooted in unity and progress.

With fluency in both English and Hausa, and strong interpersonal skills, he has the ability to bridge divides and connect with diverse groups across the state.
