If Buhari a General could not end insecurity, you cannot blame Tinubu – Yari
The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has said President Bola Tinubu should not be held solely responsible for Nigeria’s persistent security challenges.
Yari made the remarks on Monday during a visit to Kebbi State, where he met Governor Nasir Idris, traditional rulers and other APC leaders in Birnin Kebbi.
The former Zamfara State governor argued that insecurity had remained a major challenge despite efforts by successive administrations, recalling that former President Muhammadu Buhari, a retired Army general, was also unable to eliminate the problem during his eight-year tenure.
“If a retired general did his best but could not completely tackle insecurity, what do you expect of President Tinubu, who is not a general? Nevertheless, the President has done his utmost best to address the security challenges confronting the country,” Yari said.
He acknowledged the security difficulties facing the country but maintained that the Tinubu administration was making efforts to address them.
Yari also urged Nigerians to reflect on their relationship with God, saying that tackling insecurity required collective responsibility alongside government action.
Yari expresses confidence in APC’s 2027 prospects
During the visit, Yari commended Governor Idris and other APC leaders in Kebbi for mobilising support for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He praised the governor for bringing traditional rulers together to receive the campaign council delegation at the palace of the Emir of Gwandu.
“We are leading the campaign for the President’s re-election and other candidates of our party. We appreciate you for bringing the emirs together under one umbrella at the Emir of Gwandu’s palace.
“We recognise what you are doing as governors and your contributions towards ensuring victory for our party in 2027,” he said.
Yari said the campaign council would work with individuals and groups committed to Tinubu’s re-election, regardless of their positions, to achieve the APC’s objectives.
He expressed confidence in the party’s chances in Kebbi, citing the support he observed during the visit.
Yari speaks on economic hardship
On the economy, Yari acknowledged the hardship confronting Nigerians but argued that economic challenges were not limited to the country.
He claimed that inflation had declined and fertiliser prices had reduced, while noting that the Federal Government was implementing measures to ease the burden on citizens.
According to him, the measures include cash transfers to vulnerable households, which he said were intended to strengthen the economy and improve living conditions.
Yari also cited the United States and Saudi Arabia as examples of countries facing challenges despite their economic resources. He urged Nigerians to recognise the efforts of the Tinubu administration and support its development agenda.
Governor Idris pledges Kebbi’s support for Tinubu
In his remarks, Governor Idris described the visit by the presidential campaign council delegation as a welcome development.
He expressed appreciation for the gathering of APC leaders and traditional rulers to receive the team, saying the emirs had come together to demonstrate solidarity.
Idris also said Kebbi had benefited from federal government projects under Tinubu’s administration, adding that the initiatives had strengthened the state’s support for the President.
“We have no reason not to support the President. We have prominent leaders such as Sen. Atiku Bagudu, Sen. Adamu Aliero and Amb. Saidu Dakingari.
“You have seen the people of Kebbi and their overwhelming support. We are for the APC and we are for President Tinubu,” the governor said.
Idris expressed confidence that Kebbi would continue to support the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
