Ignore propaganda, NDC has long history — Dickson tells Nigerians

Former Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson, has urged Nigerians to disregard what he described as propaganda surrounding the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), insisting that the party’s registration process is longstanding and well documented.

In a statement shared on his X handle on Monday, Dickson expressed confidence in the growing support for the party nationwide, attributing it to the convergence of experienced political actors and grassroots leaders working to build a credible national platform.

He said the NDC is being developed as an ideological political movement designed to outlive its founders and remain institutionally stable over time.

“Our goal in the NDC is to build an ideological political party that can endure beyond its founders for generations to come,” he said, adding that the platform aims to mirror enduring political institutions across the world.

Dickson also highlighted the party’s focus on youth and women participation, noting that it prioritises mentorship, inclusion and public service, while creating opportunities for ordinary Nigerians to engage meaningfully in governance.

Addressing concerns about the party’s formation, he stated that records show the NDC registration process began as far back as 2017, with initial approval reportedly granted by the Independent National Electoral Commission before it was halted.

“For the record, when party registration resumed last year, we revisited and updated our earlier application,” he explained.

He acknowledged that political projects of such scale often attract criticism, misinformation and internal pressures, but urged Nigerians and supporters to remain focused on the broader objective of national development.

“With experience in politics, I am fully aware that an ambitious project of this nature will attract distractions—rumours, gossip, propaganda, and even blackmail. I therefore urge Nigerians to ignore such narratives about the NDC or any of its leaders,” he said.

Dickson called on Nigerians to join the party, register and participate actively in the political process, stressing that the platform is open to all citizens interested in contesting elections and contributing to national progress.

“Together, let us reclaim and rebuild our country,” he added.
