Kano holds massive Qur’anic prayers as Gov Yusuf calls for unity against insecurity
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has warned Nigerians against turning insecurity into a political weapon, insisting that banditry threatens everyone irrespective of party lines.
The governor gave the charge on Saturday during a special prayer session convened to seek divine intervention following recent incursions by armed bandits into parts of the state.
The event, held at the Kano Government House, featured 4,444 Qur’an memorizers (Huffaz) who recited portions of the Holy Qur’an and offered prayers for peace. Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, top government functionaries, Islamic clerics and community leaders were also in attendance.
Warning against politicizing the nation’s security challenges, Governor Yusuf stressed that unity is crucial in confronting banditry and restoring safety across the state.
“Insecurity does not recognise politics or party affiliations.”
“That is why everyone, no matter their background, must work together to defeat the monster of banditry. We want a united front to secure Kano,” he said.
He explained that his administration has continued to provide operational equipment for security agencies while maintaining constant communication with their leadership to ensure quick response to emerging threats.
The governor assured residents that the state government, in partnership with security outfits, is working tirelessly to safeguard Kano and its neighbouring communities.
He described the prayer session as a significant spiritual step that goes beyond financial considerations, urging citizens to appreciate the initiative and support it in their own ways.
Yusuf reiterated his dedication to collaborating with traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders to entrench lasting peace in the state.
In his remarks, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II commended the state government’s approach, emphasizing that improved rural infrastructure will enhance security response time.
“I noticed during my visit to Faruruwa Community in Shanono Local Government that the government is constructing road networks in rural areas. This will help security operatives respond faster to distress calls,” the Emir said.
He appealed to the governor to sustain the infrastructural projects, especially road connectivity across all 44 local governments, noting that such linkages will improve mobility and strengthen security coverage.
Sanusi reaffirmed the full commitment of the Emirate Council to supporting the government’s efforts to restore Kano’s long-standing reputation as a peaceful and commercially vibrant state.
The prayer session attracted scholars, Qur’an reciters and participants from all 44 LGAs, united in seeking divine protection and an end to insecurity across the state.
