Leaked military document lists 104 soldiers declared missing after deadly Boko Haram attack in Borno (Full List)
A classified Nigerian military document has reportedly listed 104 soldiers as deserters following a deadly Boko Haram/ISWAP attack on a military base in Borno State, raising fresh concerns over the scale of casualties and the military’s handling of the incident.
According to the leaked document, the affected personnel were serving with the 162 Amphibious Battalion along the Mandara–Buratai Road when the terrorists attacked their position on June 5, 2026.
The attack, previously reported, reportedly claimed the lives of a Major and seven other soldiers, while several others sustained injuries after insurgents stormed the base in the early hours of the morning during heavy rainfall.

The military signal, marked “RESTRICTED,” stated that the 104 soldiers allegedly abandoned their duty posts with their personal weapons after the attack and have been declared deserters with effect from June 5.
According to the document, all formations have been directed to arrest the affected personnel wherever they are found and hand them over to the appropriate military authorities.
The signal also indicated that the soldiers have failed to report back for duty since the attack.
Military sources further claimed that authorities have frozen the bank accounts of the affected personnel while investigations continue into their whereabouts.
The document categorises the missing personnel as one Staff Sergeant, three Sergeants, seven Corporals, 38 Lance Corporals and 55 Privates.
Meanwhile, military authorities are yet to publicly respond to the authenticity of the leaked document or officially comment on the reported declaration of the soldiers as deserters.
The development comes amid renewed concerns over the security situation in Nigeria’s North-East, where troops continue to battle Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
