Lukaku writes World Cup history with goal in Belgium’s 4-1 victory over USA
Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku has written his name into the FIFA World Cup record books following his side’s 4-1 victory over the United States in their Round of 16 clash.
Lukaku, who started the match on the bench, came on as a substitute in the 67th minute before scoring in stoppage time to help Belgium seal qualification for the quarter-finals.
With the goal, the former Chelsea and Manchester United forward became the first player in FIFA World Cup history to score as a substitute in four different matches.
His latest strike adds to substitute goals he previously scored against Senegal in the Round of 16, and against New Zealand and Egypt during the group stage.
Belgium will now face Spain in the quarter-finals as Lukaku looks to continue his impressive World Cup campaign and help his country advance further in the tournament.
