My Father’s reforms are intended to secure Nigeria’s future – Seyi Tinubu
Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has defended his father’s economic reform agenda, saying the administration chose to confront Nigeria’s longstanding challenges to create a better future for younger generations.
Seyi made the remarks on Monday at the maiden edition of the Seyi Tinubu Colloquium, held at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos under the theme, “Shaping the Future Together.”
He argued that although the current administration inherited existing national challenges, it had taken decisions aimed at addressing them for the benefit of generations yet to come.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not choose Nigeria, did not choose the Nigeria inherited from his predecessors, yet his administration chose to confront the challenges of our nation, not for itself alone, but for the benefit of those who come next, for us, the young generation,” he said.
Seyi identified the removal of the petrol subsidy, foreign exchange reforms and changes to the tax system as major policy decisions intended to reshape the country’s economy and create opportunities.
However, he acknowledged that the reforms had brought hardship to many Nigerian households, noting that the immediate effects had been difficult for families whose budgets were already under pressure.
He argued that investments in infrastructure, power, agriculture, manufacturing and other productive sectors could help improve economic activity and create jobs over time.
The colloquium brought together political leaders, business executives, policymakers and youth advocates to discuss leadership, enterprise, youth participation and Nigeria’s future.
Seyi also called on young Nigerians to take a more active role in governance and decision-making, stressing that the choices made by today’s leaders would shape the opportunities available to future generations.
His remarks come amid continuing public debate over the impact of the Federal Government’s economic reforms, particularly their effects on living costs and household purchasing power.
