Nine feared dead, 11 injured as gunmen raid Kaduna community
At least nine people have been confirmed dead and 11 others injured after gunmen attacked Angwan Magaji community in Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The attack occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the community located along the Kaduna–Plateau border, heightening concerns over the persistent insecurity affecting settlements in the area.
In a statement, the National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Youth Movement, Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, said the assailants stormed the community in the early hours of the morning and began shooting at residents.
Yonkpa explained that the majority of people living in the affected community are members of the Irigwe ethnic group, whose ancestral roots trace back to Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Those reportedly killed in the attack were identified as Jerry Doctor, 51; Danlami Magani, 49; Sunday Chibi, 53; Rita Abdullahi, 45; Sunday Elkan, 5; Esther Kefas, 5; Happy Friday, 6; Moses Daddy, 4; and Daddy Ibrahim, 28.
Eleven other residents sustained varying degrees of injuries and were said to be receiving treatment.
The National Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, Danjuma Dickson Auta, confirmed the incident and condemned the attack.
Auta described the killing as unfortunate and called on security agencies to immediately investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
He expressed concern over what he described as repeated attacks on communities in the area and urged authorities to strengthen security measures to protect lives and property.
He also appealed to government at all levels to take urgent steps to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among residents, noting that the incident has left the community in mourning and renewed calls for swift intervention to halt recurring violence in the area
