Nollywood star Joseph Momodu enlists in the US Army

Nollywood actor Joseph Momodu has announced his enlistment into the United States Army, describing the milestone as a tribute to his late father and the result of months of rigorous physical and mental training.

The actor shared the announcement in a post on his official Instagram page on Friday, revealing that he successfully completed 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, before graduating as a Specialist in the US Army.

Reflecting on the journey, Momodu said the achievement was earned through perseverance, sacrifice and determination.

“From inception, I have always believed in achievements earned through merit, which is why I constantly push myself beyond limits,” he wrote.

He described the training as one of the most demanding experiences of his life, saying it involved “tears, fear of failure, resilience, endless days, short nights, fatigue, rain, and the scorching sun.”

According to him, there were moments when he questioned his decision but remained committed to completing the programme.

“There were moments of doubt and times I questioned myself, ‘who send me message sef’? But I never lost sight of the finish line,” he said.

Momodu added that the experience transformed him both physically and mentally.

“We trained tirelessly, were broken down and rebuilt. I went to sleep a civilian and woke up a soldier,” he wrote, noting that the programme taught him to “find comfort in discomfort.”

The actor said his enlistment holds special emotional significance because it allowed him to continue his late father’s legacy of public service.

“On April 12, 2026, I honored my late father in a historic way. Twenty years after his passing, I picked up the baton where he left off in the Nigerian Police Force and carried it forward by getting enlisted into the United States Army,” he stated.

Momodu disclosed that he now serves as Specialist (SPC) J.A. Momodu with 1st Platoon, Charlie Company, 3-10, 3rd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

He dedicated the achievement to God, his late father, and the Royal Family of Oba Momodu II of the Avyuele Clan in Agbede, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The actor also expressed appreciation to the US Army Recruiting Station in Burbank, California, for facilitating his enlistment, and thanked his associate, Akeem Ogara, for managing his social media accounts throughout his military training.
