Real Madrid open new contract talks with Vinicius amid Arsenal interest
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is determined to retain Vinicius Junior despite the club reaching an agreement to sign Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig.
Los Blancos are expected to complete the transfer of the versatile attacker later this week, with Diomande capable of operating on either flank in attack.
The imminent arrival of the Ivorian has sparked fresh speculation over the future of Vinicius at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the Brazilian entering the final year of his current contract.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Spanish giants, with Arsenal reportedly monitoring his situation.
According to Sky Sports, Real Madrid are scheduled to hold further discussions with Vinicius’ representatives this week as they seek to reach an agreement over a new long-term contract.
The report added that Mourinho remains eager to keep the Brazil international at the club and does not believe Diomande’s arrival will diminish Vinicius’ importance to the team.
The Portuguese manager reportedly views Diomande as a versatile attacking option whose signing is intended to strengthen the squad rather than replace Vinicius, who continues to be regarded as a key player in Madrid’s plans.
