Tinubu has outperformed Buhari, Jonathan, Obasanjo, Other democratically elected Presidents — APC Spokesman

The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu has outperformed every democratically elected Nigerian president during the first term in office.

Morka made the claim on Monday during an interview with Channels Television, while defending the performance of the Tinubu administration.

According to the APC spokesman, Tinubu inherited an economy that was in serious difficulty after years of what he described as poor governance under previous administrations.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has outperformed any president in his first term. He has outperformed any democratically elected president in this country in their terms,” Morka said.

Asked about the indicators supporting his assessment, the APC spokesman said the available economic indicators were sufficient evidence of the President’s performance.

“The indicators are res ipsa loquitur, as we say in law; they speak for themselves. This president inherited an economy that was completely in a mess,” he said.

Morka attributed Nigeria’s previous economic difficulties to what he described as the cumulative effects of successive administrations.

He specifically criticised the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administrations, while describing former President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year administration as a transitional period that prevented the country from deteriorating further.

“Buhari was a stopgap president that really came to keep the country from tipping over the precipice — from 16 years of horrific maladministration of the PDP government,” he said.

“President Buhari served his term, did his job to hold the country still for President Tinubu to enter.”

The APC spokesman further claimed that Tinubu’s economic policies had helped Nigeria move beyond its previous macroeconomic challenges, arguing that even some of the administration’s critics had begun to acknowledge its progress.

Morka said Nigeria had “come out of the woods” at the macroeconomic level as a result of policies introduced by the Tinubu administration.

However, he did not provide specific comparative figures or indicators to demonstrate his claim that Tinubu had outperformed all previous democratically elected presidents.

The Tinubu administration succeeded Buhari’s government in May 2023, with both administrations operating under the APC.

Buhari served as President from 2015 to 2023, while Tinubu assumed office in May 2023 and is seeking re-election in the 2027 presidential election.
