Why I distributed ‘Alia Bread’, Action Bitters to Idoma Community — Benue Deputy Gov, Sam Ode

Benue State Deputy Governor, Dr. Sam Ode, has explained the rationale behind his recent distribution of bread, popularly referred to as “Alia Bread,” alongside bottles of Action Bitters to members of the Idoma community, insisting that the gesture was an act of appreciation rather than a political campaign.

Ode made the clarification while addressing the controversy generated by photographs and videos of the distribution, which attracted mixed reactions on social media.

According to the Deputy Governor, the items were presented as a simple expression of gratitude to the Idoma people and should not be interpreted as an attempt to score political points or influence public opinion.

He stressed that the exercise had no hidden political motive, maintaining that it was merely a symbolic gesture of appreciation to a community he described as supportive and deserving of recognition.

Ode said critics had deliberately misrepresented the event, urging the public not to attach unnecessary political meaning to what he described as an ordinary act of goodwill.

The Deputy Governor reiterated his commitment to serving the people of Benue State and fostering unity among the various ethnic groups in the state.

He also called on residents to remain focused on the developmental programmes of the state government rather than distractions capable of creating unnecessary controversy.

His explanation follows public debate over the distribution of the bread, popularly nicknamed “Alia Bread,” and Action Bitters, with some commentators questioning the intention behind the gesture.

However, Ode maintained that the distribution was simply a token of appreciation to members of the Idoma community and not a political stunt.
