The Presidency has clarified the reasons behind the resignation of former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Egbetokun stepped down to attend to personal matters that required his full attention.

According to Onanuga, the former police chief cited family responsibilities in his resignation letter submitted to the President. “The IGP resigned in a letter today, citing family issues which required his undivided attention,” he stated.

Egbetokun’s resignation made headlines on Tuesday, following reports that he was asked to step down during a meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa.

The clarification from the Presidency comes amid widespread public interest over the circumstances surrounding the sudden exit of the nation’s top police officer.
