Okeke Chinedu Christian, the candidate officially recognised as the highest scorer in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), has been rewarded with a ₦5 million star prize by Rite Foods Limited.

Chinedu, an indigene of Anambra State who sat for the examination in Lagos, scored an impressive 375 marks to emerge as the overall best candidate in the 2025 examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The award was announced by education advocate and Educare CEO, Alex Onyia, who disclosed that he received confirmation from JAMB on Wednesday.

“I got a call from JAMB this morning with the wonderful news that Okeke Chinedu Christian has been awarded the ₦5 million Star Prize by Rite Foods as the overall best candidate in the 2025 JAMB examination. You remember how we fought for this young man. Today, victory is finally his. Education is gradually getting the recognition and rewards it deserves,” Onyia wrote on X.

Photographs from the presentation showed Chinedu receiving the cheque alongside the outgoing JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede.

The recognition follows JAMB’s earlier announcement that it would honour outstanding students through its maiden Academic Excellence Recognition Award Ceremony, organised in partnership with Rite Foods Limited.

Chinedu, who selected the University of Lagos (UNILAG) as his first-choice institution, hopes to study Mechanical Engineering.

His emergence as the country’s top UTME candidate attracted widespread public attention, with many Nigerians praising the recognition as a positive step towards rewarding academic excellence.

Reacting to the award, several Nigerians commended JAMB and Rite Foods for celebrating outstanding academic performance, describing the gesture as an encouragement to hardworking students across the country.

Earlier, Chinedu revealed that discipline, consistent study and proper preparation at Achievers Academy played a major role in his outstanding performance in the 2025 UTME.
