2027: 774 LG Councillors join ‘City Boys Movement,’ endorses Tinubu

Councillors drawn from Nigeria’s 774 local government areas have thrown their weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s potential re-election bid, declaring their readiness to mobilise grassroots support across the country.

The commitment was announced at the weekend during a joint engagement with the City Boys Movement, a political support group associated with Seyi Tinubu.

Preside6nt of the National Councillors Forum of Nigeria, Hon. Evoh Okechukwu Nwikegwu, said the country’s 8,809 councillors were prepared to utilise their influence across the nation’s 176,836 polling units to ensure a resounding electoral victory for the president in the next presidential election.

Nwikegwu described the collaboration between the councillors and the City Boys Movement as a formidable political force capable of mobilising widespread support across the grassroots.

According to him, councillors remain the closest representatives of government to the people and therefore serve as critical drivers of political mobilisation and community engagement.

“The figures are staggering. This is a movement poised to sweep across the nation. Any agenda that seeks to undermine this will be rendered a futile attempt to obstruct progress,” he said.

He praised the administration of President Tinubu, describing it as transformative, particularly highlighting the restoration of local government autonomy as a major milestone in strengthening governance at the grassroots.

Nwikegwu also pointed to ongoing investments aimed at stabilising the country, expanding programmes for vulnerable populations, and promoting agriculture and rural economic development.

The forum president further commended Seyi Tinubu for what he described as visionary leadership of the City Boys Movement, noting that the initiative had become a rallying platform for young people and grassroots supporters.

He added that the South-East region was already witnessing growing interest in the movement, suggesting a possible shift in political dynamics in the area ahead of future elections.

“We are ready to ride the tide of progress. Let us show the world that we are a people committed to progress and determined to succeed,” Nwikegwu stated.
