City Boy Movement takes Tinubu 2027 campaign to Anambra

The City Boy Movement, a support group campaigning for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, has taken its mobilisation drive to Anambra State.

The group held a town hall meeting at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka, where speakers called on residents to support Tinubu’s bid for a second term.

During the meeting, speakers highlighted what they described as the benefits of maintaining a strong relationship between Anambra State and the Federal Government.

The mobilisation comes about a month after another pro-Tinubu group, Relax Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria (RTIFN), led by Chief John Bosco Onunkwo, organised a grassroots mobilisation programme in the state.

The latest campaign is part of efforts by supporters of the President to strengthen his political base ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on the theme, “Can Anambra Afford to Be Disconnected from the Centre?”, the Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake, who was keynote speaker, urged residents to reconsider the state’s relationship with the Federal Government.

Nnake argued that supporting Tinubu’s re-election would help attract further development to Anambra, saying residents should recognise the importance of maintaining cooperation with the Federal Government.

She said the 2027 presidential election would provide an opportunity for Ndi Anambra to demonstrate their support for Tinubu and encourage him to continue his policies.

In his remarks, the South-East Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, Chief Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, also urged Anambra residents to support the President.

Iyiegbu said he believed the Tinubu administration was working for Nigerians despite what he described as limited support for the President in Anambra.

He pledged to take personal responsibility if Tinubu failed to deliver development to the state after receiving its support in 2027.

“I know that Tinubu is working for the people even now that he did not receive much support from the state, let alone when he wins in the state,” Iyiegbu said.

The Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Tosin Shoga, acknowledged that some Federal Government policies had imposed difficulties on citizens but argued that the measures were necessary for longer-term economic benefits.

Shoga cited Federal Government interventions, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), ongoing infrastructure projects and appointments of Anambra indigenes to government positions, as reasons for continued support for Tinubu.

He urged residents to back the President’s re-election bid.

The Anambra State Women Leader of the movement, Mrs Adaora Soludo, called on women to remain supportive of Tinubu, saying the President meant well for the country.

Earlier, the state Director of the movement, Sir Nonso Ozoemena, urged residents to put emotions aside and consider supporting Tinubu for a second term.

He argued that Anambra could not afford to remain disconnected from the Federal Government, given the state’s economic importance.

The state coordinator of the movement, Enzo Uzor Nzeribe, said the group was established to promote the Renewed Hope Agenda, empower young people and engage Anambra residents in what he described as efforts toward a better Nigeria.

Nzeribe listed the NELFUND student loan scheme, digital skills programmes, social intervention initiatives and federal road projects among areas where he said the Tinubu administration had impacted Nigerians.

He also cited the Onitsha-Enugu and Port Harcourt-Enugu expressways, which he said were receiving Federal Government attention.

On security and welfare, Nzeribe referenced the Federal Government’s recently announced salary increase for members of the Armed Forces, describing it as a boost to the welfare of security personnel.

He said the movement was committed to sustainable youth empowerment through skills development and other initiatives designed to promote self-reliance.

Nzeribe also cited proposed and ongoing governance reforms, including state police, the creation of additional military formations and local government autonomy, as measures he said could strengthen governance at the grassroots.

Dignitaries at the event included the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Lady Esther Onyekesi; Chief of Staff to the South-East Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, Ambassador Elijah Onyeagba; A-Big Nwankwo; and a delegation of the National Youth Council of Nigeria led by its chairman, Barrister Nonso Nwaebili.

Youths from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and other groups also attended the event.

Highlights included a performance by the Unity Cultural Troupe and panel discussions on the role of Anambra in national development.
