The Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gombe State, Abdulrahman Buba Zaune, has resigned from the party, fueling speculation about his next political destination ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Zaune announced his decision in a resignation letter dated August 5, 2026, which was addressed to the Chairman of the ADC in Zaune Ward, Dukku Local Government Area of Gombe State.

A copy of the letter, obtained by our correspondent on Thursday, showed that the former state spokesperson thanked the party for giving him the opportunity to serve in different capacities at the ward, local government, state and national levels.

“I sincerely appreciate the political party for the opportunity to serve in different capacities ranging from the Local Government, State and National levels respectively.

“I therefore wish the party well,” he wrote.

The resignation letter, however, did not disclose the reason for his decision or reveal his next political destination.

His exit has nevertheless sparked speculations within political circles that he may be considering joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development came barely 24 hours after the APC governorship candidate in Gombe State, Dr. Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna, visited Dukku Local Government Area, Zaune’s home constituency, as part of his political engagements.

The timing of Zaune’s resignation has further heightened interest as political parties intensify consultations and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

His resignation also follows the recent exit of ADC State Secretary, Ahmed Gana, who left the opposition party and later defected to the APC, declaring support for Gwamna’s governorship ambition.
